I moved into this place on I-35 in Round Rock, TX on Feb 13, 2010 for 6 months.It was the start of my sales career at age 38 as an Account Executive.This was not the picture I had in my head at where my career would be when I hit this age.My wife and two small kids were in Houston. I went back on weekends to see them until they joined me 6 months later.I went to the office at 7am, made cold calls starting at 7:30am to reach Maintenance and Plant Managers in manufacturing as that is when they were most likely to pick-up.I went back to my small room with a frozen dinner at 7pm, read a sales book (I cannot remember which ones), and then started over the next day.It sucked, but I would not trade it for the world.I learned how to cold call. Try calling into Oil & Gas manufacturing and being bad on the phone. You will know real fast if you need to make change...haha!I learned a ton about sales and how people buy from folks they trust.I screwed up a lot.....and I learned how to admit that to a client and fix it.Do not get tied to where you are in your career at a certain age, what title you have or what you are earning.Focus on how much you are learning and growing professionally.#sales #careerdevelopment #learning #coldcalls
