The Brotherhood of Steel is a technologically advanced faction group that wants to kill all mutants. They distrust the unwashed masses and believe that they are not to be trusted with the cool technology that they invent, preferring to keep it to themselves. However, as the Vault Dweller, you'll get a chance to get hands on with some of their tech, including their power armor.The Brotherhood of Steel power armor is one of the coolest items you can get in Fallout 3. You'll need special training to wear it, however, which means you have to complete a good part of the main storyline before you get a chance to try it on for size. It's worth the effort. Just look at it. The only thing more intimidating is the apocalypse, and if you wanted to be any more armored you'd need to wear a tank.
Fallout 3 Nexus notes that the Brotherhood of Steel does not 'invent' the technology it scavanges. It scavanges it.

BOS are descendents of US army survivors and their ragtag recruits; honestly they are really just well organized scavengers...WOw I've never heard it put into that perspective before but now that I think about it, you are absolutely right!!

The best armor, you can find in a game, is Bronson's Bikini Armor ;-)
Well, the best power armor you can get in Fallout 3 is the T-51b Winterized Power Armor that you can get in the game because it really doesn't break down (except during Mothership Zeta and then Somah can fix it for you). While I realize that people may not always like power armor for their character, this is the one to use when going into heavy battle situations such as the attacks on the Jefferson Memorial, the Rockland Communications facility and Adams Air Force Base.
I'm surprised, really surprised, that this is in the May 2012 news section on the Nexus. *shakes head*
heh, no mention to the space marines armor, even if it's more badass and awesome than most of the things found on that list
