I have to admit; I love dipping sauces! My favorite meals involve multiple dipping sauces and various dippable goodies.
We recently set out this Boom Boom Sauce along with Japanese Spicy Mayo, Comeback Sauce, and Fry Sauce along with Air fryer French fries, tater tots, chicken nuggets, chicken strips, sweet potato fries, onion rings, and more.
It was so much fun having a group of people over, and everyone could design their plate of food. It was a super low-key night of relaxing and catching up after not seeing each other for too long.
We always keep an assortment of sauces in the fridge so we can whip out a quick and easy dinner or snack. You may have noticed I am on an air fryer kick if you have been a long-term site follower. I have been having so much fun making all the air fryer recipes I can.
Ingredients
Here is a quick overview of the simple ingredients needed to make an epic Boom Boom Sauce! The printable recipe card at the bottom of the post includes specific measurements and step-by-step instructions.
- Mayonnaise
- Ketchup
- Sweet Chili Sauce
- Garlic Powder
- Sriracha Sauce
Sweet Chili Sauce - I find sweet chili sauce in the international aisle in our grocery store. You can also buy it on Amazon.
Mayonnaise - You can use vegan mayonnaise if you would like to make this boom boom sauce vegan.
Equipment Needed
- Mixing Bowl - We are big fans of this glass batter bowl that has a handle. It makes it easy to mix ingredients and keeps the mixing bowl steady on the counter.
- Whisk
- Measuring cups
The best part of this recipe is how few things you need to make it!
Just a bowl, whisk and measuring cups and you have everything you need. We like making it in these Pyrex glass bowls that have a tight sealing lid so we can store it easily in the refrigerator.
I love that you don't need a blender, the stove, or even a pan to make this great dipping sauce.
How to Make Boom Boom Sauce
I've included complete instructions in the printable recipe card at the bottom of the post, but here's a short version.
- Combine ingredients in a mixing bowl and whisk together until well-mixed.
- Refrigerate for a few hours for the flavors to meld together.
Preparation and Storage
Make Ahead: Boom Boom Sauce is a true make-ahead homemade condiment that tastes best when given time to rest in the refrigerator for a few hours before serving it, as this gives the flavors time to meld together and for it to taste amazing.
Storage: Keep your Boom Boom Sauce refrigerated when you’ve finished eating, and keep it in a lidded airtight container.
Freezing/How to Freeze: As with other sauces, we don’t recommend freezing your Boom Boom sauce due to the textural changes that occur when frozen sauces thaw.
How to Reheat: We don’t recommend heating a mayonnaise-based dipping sauce since doing so causes the sauce to break.
Recipe Variations
Substitutions: Sriracha is a huge spice and flavor element in this sauce, and its popularity makes it available in most grocery stores. However, if you can’t find any in your area, Evergreen Kitchen has a list of sriracha substitutes ready to lend a hand.
Vegetarian Option: All of the ingredients in Boom Boom sauce are vegetarian-friendly, as they don’t contain meat.
Vegan Option: Use your favorite vegan mayo to make your Boom Boom sauce plant-based.
Gluten-Free: Boom Boom sauce is safe for a gluten-free diet.
Make it Spicy: You can adjust the amount of garlic powder, salt, and pepper to taste. Feel free to add more sweet chili sauce or less, depending on the spice level you enjoy.
Larger Group/More Servings: Want to keep a nice amount in the refrigerator for later use? Just double or triple the recipe to get the quantity you need.
Sugar-Free: Sweet chili sauce has the highest sugar content of all the ingredients in the sauce, so choose a lower-sugar sauce if you maintain a lower-sugar diet.
Tips for the Best Boom Boom Sauce
- We keep hearing that Sheetz gas stations serve this sauce. We do not have any locations near us, so I have yet to have a chance to try their sauce. I hope we can make an East Coast National Park trip soon, and I plan on checking out the Sheetz Boom Boom Sauce while we are there.
- Add about half a teaspoon of onion powder if you like more onion flavor.
- This sauce also works great as a salad dressing!
- We love that it takes less than 5 minutes to prepare and always tastes amazing.
